Final Production Volume I

My Final Major Project is a stop motion film centred around a former British soldier who, after being abandoned by the country he served, becomes a mercenary struggling with the psychological effects of war. The narrative explores themes of betrayal, political corruption, manipulation, and PTSD, following the protagonist as he uncovers classified documents revealing that the conflict he fought in was deliberately engineered by British intelligence. Through this story, I wanted to examine the human cost of political decisions and the lasting impact that war can have on individuals. I am extremely happy with the final outcome because I believe I successfully communicated these complex themes through visual storytelling while creating a compelling and emotionally engaging narrative.

One of the aspects I am most proud of is the ambition of the project. Rather than creating a simple stop motion animation, I developed a detailed political thriller with a layered storyline involving covert operations, government deception, and a protagonist experiencing severe psychological trauma. Throughout production, I focused on creating believable character movements, action sequences, and cinematic framing to help immerse the audience in the story. The film allowed me to experiment with pacing, tension, and atmosphere, particularly during scenes where the protagonist discovers the truth behind the war and begins to question everything he believed in. I feel that these moments effectively convey both the political and emotional weight of the narrative.

Technically, the project presented numerous challenges. Stop motion animation is an incredibly time intensive process, requiring patience and attention to detail for even short sequences. During post production, I used the Top Motion app to edit and assemble my footage into a complete film. Although the software had limitations, I was able to optimise the exported footage and achieve a reasonably good resolution that maintained visual clarity throughout the project. This was particularly important because many scenes contained intricate movements and small details that would have been lost if the quality had been reduced further. Through experimentation and problem solving, I was able to create a final product that looked far more polished than I initially expected.

Despite my satisfaction with the visual aspects of the film, I am devastated that I was unable to include sound design in the final version. My original intention was to incorporate music, ambient sound effects, dialogue, and audio cues to reinforce the emotional impact of key scenes. Sound would have helped communicate the protagonist's deteriorating mental state and enhanced the tension surrounding the conspiracy he uncovers. Unfortunately, the scope of the project became much larger than I had anticipated. As production continued, the amount of time required to animate, edit, and complete the visuals consumed nearly all of the available schedule, leaving insufficient time to develop the audio elements to a standard I would have been satisfied with.

This experience has taught me valuable lessons about project management and the importance of balancing ambition with realistic time constraints. While I do not regret aiming high, I recognise that my timeline was overly ambitious for a project of this scale. If I were to continue developing the film, the addition of sound design would be my highest priority, as I believe it would significantly improve the atmosphere and emotional depth of the final piece. Nevertheless, I am incredibly proud of what I achieved. The project demonstrates my creativity, storytelling ability, technical development in stop motion animation, and willingness to tackle mature and challenging subject matter. Despite its limitations, I believe the final film successfully realises my original vision and represents my strongest work to date.

Final Production Volume II - Sound

ill upload what ive edited so far to give a sense of what the animation could have been

Presentation - The Idea of how it will Premiere

The Premiere:

As part of the exhibition and presentation stage of my Final Major Project, I plan to premiere my stop motion film to my classroom. Presenting the project in person will provide an opportunity to showcase the amount of work, planning, and technical skill that went into producing the final outcome. Since stop motion animation is an extremely time consuming process, I believe viewing the project in a classroom setting will allow my peers and tutors to appreciate the effort involved in creating each scene. It will also provide a suitable environment to explain the themes and intentions behind the narrative.

One of the major advantages of premiering the project to the class is the ability to receive immediate feedback. Audience reactions, discussions, and constructive criticism will help me understand how effectively I communicated the story and whether the themes of political manipulation, betrayal, and psychological trauma were successfully conveyed. The classroom environment also encourages engagement, allowing viewers to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the narrative and production process.

However, there are also some disadvantages to presenting the project exclusively within a classroom environment. The audience size is relatively limited, meaning that only a small number of people will experience the film. In addition, some viewers may not be familiar with the political themes explored within the story, which could affect their interpretation of certain scenes. Since the film also lacks sound design due to time constraints, some elements of the narrative may require additional explanation to ensure viewers fully understand the intended meaning.

To overcome these limitations, I also plan to upload the final film to YouTube. Publishing the project online would allow it to reach a significantly broader audience beyond my classmates and tutors. YouTube provides an accessible platform where viewers from different backgrounds and locations can watch the film and engage with its themes. Uploading the project online would also allow me to gather feedback from a wider range of viewers, helping me evaluate how effectively the narrative communicates its message to different audiences.

The Targeted Demographic:

The primary target audience for my project consists of individuals with an interest in politics and political history. The narrative explores themes of government secrecy, manipulation, corruption, and the consequences of political decisions on ordinary people. Viewers who are interested in these subjects may find the story particularly engaging because it encourages them to question authority, examine the motives behind political actions, and consider the human impact of larger geopolitical events.

Another important audience demographic is people within my own age group as well as older viewers. The mature themes explored throughout the film make it more suitable for teenagers and adults who are capable of understanding the complex political and psychological elements within the narrative. Older audiences may also have a greater appreciation for the historical influences and ethical questions raised throughout the story, allowing them to engage with the project on a deeper level.

The project is also aimed at individuals who have a passion for stop motion animation. Throughout the production process I invested a significant amount of time into creating detailed movements, camera angles, and action sequences. Viewers who are familiar with stop motion techniques may be able to recognise the level of patience, dedication, and technical skill required to produce the final film. As a result, this audience may appreciate both the artistic and practical aspects of the project.

In addition to these audiences, I believe the film will appeal to casual movie watchers and former soldiers or servicemen. Casual viewers may enjoy the action oriented narrative, mystery, and dramatic plot twists, while former military personnel may connect more closely with the themes of loyalty, sacrifice, trauma, and betrayal. Although the story is fictional, it explores emotional experiences that many people can empathise with, making it accessible to a broad range of viewers despite its specific political focus.

The Exhibit:

The exhibition aspect of the project is particularly important because the final film does not contain sound. While I am very pleased with the visual quality and storytelling, the lack of audio means that some narrative information may not be communicated as clearly as originally intended. By exhibiting the project in person, I will have the opportunity to provide context and explain key elements of the story before the audience begins watching.

Presenting the film in a classroom setting will also allow me to discuss the themes and symbolism used throughout the narrative. Certain visual sequences were designed to represent the protagonist's deteriorating mental state and growing distrust of the institutions around him. Without sound effects, music, or dialogue, some viewers may overlook these details. Through exhibition and discussion, I can help audiences understand the significance of these creative decisions and gain a fuller appreciation of the project.

Another benefit of exhibition is the opportunity to answer questions after the screening. Audience members may have different interpretations of the narrative or may seek clarification regarding certain plot points. The question and answer aspect of the presentation will enable me to explain my intentions as the creator and ensure that viewers leave with a stronger understanding of the story and its themes. I have always admired Robot Chicken for its unique stop motion style and creative approach to storytelling.
It inspired me to create content that reflects a similar filming style while developing my own original ideas.
From a broadcasting perspective, I was particularly interested in how the show effectively engages and captivates its audience.
I also analysed how the platform is used to distribute content and maintain viewer interest.
My target demographic includes viewers of Adult Swim, as they are already familiar with this style of entertainment because Adult Swim has such a large and loyal audience, there is strong potential to attract and retain viewers.
This influence has helped shape both my creative direction and audience strategy for the project.

Overall, I believe the exhibition process will significantly enhance the audience's experience of my Final Major Project. Although the absence of sound remains one of the project's biggest limitations, presenting the film alongside an explanation of its narrative, themes, and production process will help bridge this gap. Combined with the wider reach offered by YouTube, the exhibition will allow me to effectively communicate the purpose of the project while showcasing the hard work, creativity, and technical skills that contributed to its creation.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I am extremely proud of my Final Major Project and believe it represents the culmination of the skills, knowledge, and experience I have gained throughout the course. The stop motion film allowed me to challenge myself creatively and technically while exploring complex themes such as political corruption, betrayal, manipulation, and the psychological effects of war. Through the development process, I was able to create a narrative that was both ambitious and thought provoking, resulting in a final product that successfully reflects my original vision.

One of the greatest achievements of this project was my ability to complete a detailed stop motion film despite the numerous challenges I encountered. From planning the storyline and constructing scenes to animating individual frames and editing the final footage, every stage required significant patience, organisation, and dedication. The experience strengthened my problem solving abilities, practical skills and helped me develop a greater understanding of the amount of work required to produce a successful stop motion production.

Although I am very satisfied with the visual outcome, I recognise that the absence of sound design is the project's biggest weakness. Due to the ambitious scope of the film and the limited timeframe available, I was forced to prioritise completing the animation and editing process. While I am disappointed that I could not include music, sound effects, or dialogue, I believe the visual storytelling remains effective and still communicates the core themes and emotions of the narrative. If I were to continue developing the project, adding sound would be my first priority as it would significantly improve the overall viewing experience.

The project has also taught me valuable lessons about project management and the importance of realistic planning. While ambition allowed me to create a more complex and engaging story, it also highlighted the need to carefully balance creative goals with available time and resources. Through this experience, I have gained a better understanding of how to structure future projects, allocate time more effectively, and anticipate potential challenges before they become major obstacles.

Overall, I believe this Final Major Project demonstrates my growth as a creative practitioner and showcases my ability to produce a meaningful and technically demanding piece of work. The combination of stop motion animation, political storytelling, and character driven themes has resulted in a project that I am genuinely proud to present. Despite its limitations, I feel that the final film successfully achieves its objectives and serves as a strong conclusion to my studies, reflecting both my creative ambitions and the progress I have made throughout the course.
